SEATTLE -- When does "here" really mean "over there?" That's what a Wallingford business owner wants to know.
When Carey Steingraber showed up to the offices of the real estate and mortgage company she co-owns with her husband on Bridge Way Monday morning, she got a surprise.
"I said what the (expletive) that!" said Steingraber.
It was a billboard advertising Pot Shop Seattle with an arrow saying "located here." But there was a problem: The arrow appears to point directly to her offices below.
"My heart started to race a bit and I was like, what's the deal?" said Steingraber.
Clearly the arrow was intended to point to a brand new recreational marijuana store across the street and a half a block away. Pot Shop Seattle is set to up next week. Its owner just got his license from the Washington State Liquor Control Board on Friday.
"I have no problem with the industry, but a sign like that, pointed at your building and you're a ma-and-pop shop, not a pot shop, is concerning," said Steingraber.
She's also concerned about the impression the sign gives to families coming to her office this weekend for her child's school annual rummage sale.
"When it says 'here' and we are having a fund raiser for an elementary school, here, you certainly have a concern," said Steingraber.
Her husband wrote an email to the operators of the billboard, Clear Channel Outdoor, and asked if something could be done to change the arrow's direction at the very least.
The general manager of Pot Shop Seattle didn't know there were concerns about the billboard until KOMO News asked him about it.
