The race to gain traction in the dual worlds of big data and commercial real estate accelerated Thursday now that Austin-based RealMassive netted another $3 million from Austin-based RHS Investments.
The company, which launched its Web-based open source commercial real estate office listing service in 2013, plans to expand its coverage across the country and improve its search engine results.
RealMassive co-founders Joshua McClure and Craig Hancock said they are on the cusp of securing the support of national brokerages with an eye toward eclipsing the market hold that CoStar Group has had on the commercial real estate market for years.
“We’ve garnered the trust of asset managers and brokers, some financiers and tenants,” McClure told Austin Business Journal. “We’ve been working on our professional relationships and now we’re going for eyeballs.”

While office listings provided the core for launching RealMassive, interest and momentum have led to organic growth in industrial and retail listings. A key strategy from the start was evolving and maturing the Austin platform, though it didn’t take long to add other cities — a process that continues. RealMassive now provides listings in 33 major markets.
The duo now inherits more lofty titles. Hancock has been named RealMassive's CEO and McClure is the president. The company has grown to 29 employees.
“We’ve hired some of the best people in the world,” McClure said, and then he added: “They have to drop their broker’s license before they come to work for us.”
