Salina’s senior population is growing larger, and their need is for smaller spaces — and local real estate agents are noticing the change.
A growing trend in the housing market is the desire of retirees or people nearing retirement age to downsize their lives and their property, according to real estate agent David Holmgren of RE/MAX Advantage, 415 E. Iron.
“I’m seeing a lot of people at retirement age who don’t need a larger home anymore,” he said. “The upkeep on a larger home is too much for them. They’re not ready to go into assisted living, but they want to move to smaller properties — 1,200-square-foot places without basements.”
