Colonia Juarez Centro sits sandwiched between Reforma Avenue, which is home to Mexico’s capital’s most prominent office towers, and Chapultepec Avenue, which borders the city’s Roma neighborhood, a barrio that is at the center of the city’s current wave of restoration and investment. While still home to a bevy of seedy rim and tire stores, the type of establishments that have mostly been replaced with mezcal boutiques and upscale restaurants in La Roma, Juarez is also home to an agglomeration of turn-of-the-century mansions and apartment complexes that reflect a more decadent period in the neighborhood’s history. Juarez Centro also benefits from its proximity to Mexico City’s historic centro and the spillover effects from Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim’s efforts to clean up and restore the old city center.
