Fabius, NY -- A Fabius real estate agent was facing a 4-month trial before she pleaded guilty in a mortgage fraud case earlier this year, a lawyer said. That's twice as long as the trial was originally anticipated to be.

Theresa Sanders, 53, has been sitting in jail since August 2013 on charges that she bilked banks and homeowners with bad finances during the Great Recession. She pleaded guilty in January in exchange for a sentence of 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison.

But her sentencing was delayed today because she promised to testify truthfully against an appraiser, Steven Essig, who authorities say helped her in the scheme. Essig's trial is scheduled for June.
