After 37 years of buying and selling for his clients, real estate agent Wayne Spicer finally hit his goal - closing on 1,000 properties.
The milestone was reached last month with the sale of a new house in the Winchester area.
"To me it meant I was able to reach that goal that I had set when I started in the business," the 67-year-old Spicer, a Roseburg resident, said. "When I started, I wanted a goal, and I made 1,000 my goal. I don't think very many other agents, if any, have reached that."
Spicer's closings, whether representing the buyer, seller or both, have been for residential, commercial and vacant land, all in Douglas County.
According to veterans of the real estate industry in Douglas County, 1,000 is a rare feat in the profession.
"Very, very few brokers have accomplished 1,000 closings," said real estate broker Neil Hummel. "In fact, since 1973, I can't think of anybody having this many closings."
Hummel, the principal broker at Century 21 The Neil Company Real Estate in Roseburg, has been in the business since that year.
"I'm really, really proud of Wayne. This is pretty historic for our area," Hummel added.
Jerry Chartier, a principal broker for Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Real Estate Professionals in Roseburg and a 35-year veteran of the industry, agreed Spicer's accomplishment is rare.
"Wayne has always been above the curve," Chartier said of Spicer's annual number of closings compared to the average. "It takes a lot of dedication, a lot of work. He is somebody who has done it right. I think he's very deserving of what he's accomplished."
